Adoption Process
International Adoption is a very complicated and at the same time is a very rewarding process. Thousands and thousands families adopt every year from overseas. Orphans Adoption is proud to be part of this exciting process and making some ground braking changes in the way it’s done. Our agency solely focuses on the family and its needs rather then simply on the paperwork alone like many other agencies do. We stay close to our families through the whole process of international adoption from start to very end. From your fist phone call or email to Orphans Adoption you will be working with a live person and will be able to talk on the phone with a live person whenever you needed in order to resolve any obstacles or confusions (we are not supporting automated phone services, and if you call us during business hours there always be a live person answering your phone on the other side with the greeting from Orphans Adoption).

Host a Child

PROGRAM COST

$2,500: This fee includes the child's roundtrip airfare to and from the United States, passport, visa, and travel expenses to and from the nearest international airport in the child's home country. This fee does not include adoption fees.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS TO HOST A CHILD

The primary goal of the Four Week Families program is to seek permanent homes for each of the participating children. A secondary goal is to give prospective adoptive families who may not otherwise be prepared to adopt an older child an opportunity to host a child before committing to adoption. Though in the past we have accepted families in a host only capacity, we give priority to those families that are proceeding with the intent to adopt and make it our goal to match all host children with adoptive families.

All prospective families must complete an application and host family agreement, submit any required fees, and have their home approved by a licensed Social Worker before any host children will be permitted to join a host family.

In accordance with the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services guidelines, adoption laws of child's home country, and Orphans Adoptions Family Services’ mission and by-laws, married couples and single individuals greater than 25 years of age and more than 16 years older than child they wish to adopt will be considered.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Prospective host families will be required to complete and submit the following:
Agency application
Host Family Agreement
Home Visit and approval by licensed Social Worker*
$2,500 Four Weeks Families Host Fee

If the experience leads to a desire for permanent adoption, the adopting family will also be required to complete all Orphans Adoptions Family Services agency requirements, including:
Adoption Agreement
$5000 Agency Fee
$1000 Homestudy/Post-Placement Fee*
Agency Paperwork
Payment of Foreign Fee (See Individual Country Pages for Fee Information)
Foreign Dossier

Note: This list is not exhaustive. It is simply intended to give families an idea of the costs and the adoption process following a decision to adopt.

WHO ARE THE CHILDREN?

Participating children will be five to twelve year old orphans from Honduras, Kenya, Russia, and Ukraine (This is the tentative plan). Both boys and girls will be available. Host families that are accepted into the program will have the opportunity to request age and gender. We will do our best to match such requests. Host families will be provided with pictures and medical assessments of prospective host children and have an opportunity to decide whether to proceed in hosting the child.

Many people love to adopt babies, but are often afraid of the unknowns and challenges they may face with older children who have been institutionalized. This program helps to take the fear and risk of adopting older, institutionalized children by allowing families an opportunity to interact and form meaningful friendships with these children and evaluate first-hand the challenges and rewards of adopting an older child.

Dependency Exemption

Adoptive parents may take the same dependency exemption on their income taxes for their adopted children, and children placed with them for adoption but not yet finalized, as they would for their biological children. The exemption reduces their taxable income. The amount of the dependent exemption is adjusted annually to reflect the cost of living. The main point to remember is that families must provide more than half of their children's support to list them as exemptions. Some adopted children come with subsidies, which may provide more than half of their support. For example: if a child receives $5,000 a year in subsidies, the adoptive family must provide $5,001 or more a year to claim the child as an exemption. »read more
